MULAN
Director: Jingle Ma, Wei Dong
Release date: 2009
Genre: Adventure/Drama/Romance
Follows the Chinese lore of Hua Mulan, where Mulan dresses as a man to fight in the war in place of her father. In the camp, she meets Wentai, another general whom she begins developing feelings for. After many misadventures, Mulan eventually rises to a high rank, incurring the jealousy of her superior officer. She eventually finds herself betrayed by her superior when fighting the Xiongnu, and decides on a desperate last attack on the enemy forces. However, Wentai reveals himself to be a prince, and offers himself in exchange for the safety of Mulan and her soldiers. The story ends with Wentai being forced to marry a Xiongnu princess and Mulan retires to her native town after 12 years of fighting. Wentai and Mulan meet once more, and they discuss the necessity of sacrificing for their country.
