Ye Rutang, a single-living woman in her sixties, struggles to maintain a dignified life amid the dangers of Shanghai. She is pragmatic, frugal and self-reliant. But her old-fashioned ways and trusting nature are an ill fit with the increasingly impersonalized world. After being the victim of several con artists, she moves back to live with her husband and daughter in Anshan.
